What is AI mastering?

AI mastering is automated final-stage processing: software analyses your mix, then applies equalisation, compression, stereo shaping, and loudness normalisation to hit a release-ready target — in minutes rather than days.

How AI mastering works

The engine first measures your track: spectral balance, dynamic range, peak and integrated loudness, and stereo width. It compares those measurements against reference targets for the style you pick, then builds a processing chain that closes the gap. Because the analysis is measurement-driven, the same track processed twice produces the same master — something manual sessions rarely guarantee.

1. Analyse the source mix and detect problem frequencies and dynamics.
2. Match the measured profile to a taste preset (music, film, hybrid).
3. Apply EQ, multiband dynamics, saturation, and limiting to the loudness target.
4. Render and export a delivery file — MP3 or MP4 — with consistent metadata.

AI mastering for video and colour grading

The same idea applies to picture. Automated colour grading reads exposure, contrast, and colour balance across your clip, then applies a look — teal-and-orange, bleach bypass, warm documentary — while keeping skin tones plausible. Running audio mastering and colour grading in one pipeline means a film cut leaves with matched sound and picture in a single export, rather than two separate round-trips.

AI mastering vs. traditional mastering

A mastering engineer brings taste, context, and accountability: they will tell you when the mix itself is the problem. That judgement costs money and turnaround time — often $50–$150 per track and several days per revision. AI mastering trades bespoke judgement for speed, repeatability, and unlimited revisions, which is why it fits demos, playlist singles, client previews, and social cuts particularly well.

When independent creators should use it

If you are releasing regularly, self-funding, or iterating on a cut with a client, AI mastering removes the bottleneck between "the mix is done" and "the file is out". Keep a human engineer for flagship releases where a second set of ears is worth the wait — and use automated mastering for everything else.
